A painting workshop

Company founder Carl Petzold ran a painting workshop before founding the company “farben Petzold” at Merseburger Straße 33 in Leipzig-Lindenau in 1911. Initially he was involved in the sale of all kinds of paints and painting tools, and at times he offered his goods in up to four branches in Leipzig and the surrounding area.

From 1935 the company also supplied industrial and craft businesses - the first contacts were made with the paint manufacturer Glasurit.

Since 1961

...Rudolf Bräunig, son-in-law of the company founder, ran the company. The supply of phase colors to companies in the electrical industry in Thuringia and Saxony and the sale of license plate colors were added. Since the mid-seventies, the remixing of car paints based on samples has been an important part of the service; Farben Petzold was the only company in Leipzig at that time to provide this service.

After the fall of the GDR

...new perspectives opened up for the company and activities in the area of car paint could be intensified. The connection to Glasurit was resumed, and ultimately there was extensive specialization in the production and distribution of car paint and accessories.

Between my father Rudolf Bräunig and I's first visit to Glasurit in Münster in the spring of 1990 and the opening of the new business and storage rooms in the Frankenheim business park in 1994, there were times of hard, concentrated work, combined with a lot of personal deprivation. These years were shaped not only by the re-establishment of Autolack Petzold GmbH or the increase in the number of employees, but above all by the move from the former sales rooms on Merseburger Straße to the new building in Frankenheim near Leipzig.

Here and now

...the settlement of BMW and Porsche as well as countless logistics companies offer new opportunities. The specialization in rail vehicles and the development of know-how in this area have led to the implementation of tram projects in collaboration with Heiterblick GmbH. These projects not only help to develop local public transport throughout Germany, but also make it more “colorful and beautiful”.

Last but not least, the cooperation with the Bavarian paint manufacturer Mipa enables us to better realize the potential in the industrial paint sector through additional staff.
